Hey everyone! I haven't posted for more than a month! Sheesh, sorry. I redesigned my page and I think it looks a bit more 2010. What do you think? I'm not really prepared for this post but I wanted to let you all know that I'm still alive, still happy, and still progressing! Also, I do want to talk a little about the hot topic of the day-- Facebook. Here goes:
As you may know, the creators of Facebook recently put more options for privacy in the hands of their users. We are now able to customize who can see information about you, your photo albums, your posts, etc. I took full advantage of this and made my profile really private. I feel like a lot of people judge their "Facebook friends" by their photos, wall conversations, video links, etc. and I wanted to put a stop to that when it came to me. So I deleted a lot of "friends" and made much of what I have on my profile private. Each post, status update, and photo album are open to view for certain people and are hidden from others. I understand that some people may be offended by this decision and to them I say "It doesn't matter." I judge my relationships with people by many things, but definitely not by my connection to them on Facebook and I hope that they will reciprocate that judgment (or lack thereof). So the point is this: If you want to know what is going on in my life, don't try to find out by looking at my photos on Facebook or reading over my recent wall-posts but ASK ME! Call me, email me, text me, even send me a message over Facebook, but please communicate with me! I'm sorry that it may be more inconvenient than checking up on my profile, but I think it's worth it. Please let me know what you all think about this! Am I too private on Facebook? Do you feel like I should place more emphasis on Facebook relationships? Have I changed your mind about something? Are you reading my blog? I will update again soon, don't worry. Have a great day!

I Never Titled This Blog
Living in college is a very transitional time. Since college students move fairly often, we sometimes miss out on the things that living in a permanent spot entails, like houseplants, yard-work, or owning a pet. I've lived with at least one cat my whole life, so it's been quite an adjustment living without kitty love everyday. In order to soothe this need, I try to pet and befriend the stray cats that run around my town, but mostly they get scared and run away. Last night, something different happened.
I was on the phone and walking around last night when I saw the cutest kitten playing in the gutter. I held out my hand and talked to it and it came! It was so happy and nice that I picked it up. In all the excitement my friend and I decided that it was a sign from the universe and I had to bring it to her house. So I did. We determined it was a female kitten and probably about 3 or 4 months old. We played with her, cuddled with her, and were simply filled with joy! I took it to my apartment to spend the night. I put some dirt in a box for her to relieve herself in and took her to bed. If you've ever slept in the same bed as a kitten, you know how great it is. If you haven't, I'm sorry.
This morning I made some signs that I had found a kitten and put them up around my street, secretly hoping that no one would respond. I'd fallen in love with this little kitten! I ended up buying a bag of kitty litter because dirt doesn't mask the smell of kitty poop (who would have thought?), a bag of cheap cat food, and some toy mice for her to play with. She loved the mice and the food! She even loved playing in the kitty litter (and spreading it around the room).
I went to work and informed my coworkers that I had gotten a kitten! But it was not to be. I received a phone call from the cat's owners during work. I told them when I would be home and informed my coworkers of the bad news. When they arrived at my front door, I saw a very happy woman and a sad little boy. She thanked me for finding the kitten, for posting the signs, and for the kitty litter, food and toys. She also informed me that it was a male kitten (Me: "Oh, was he neutered?" Her: "No, he's a kitten."). Apparently male kittens don't have the obvious signs... I brought "Biscuit" the male kitten down the stairs and the little boy's face lit up. "Biscuit!" he screamed. I sent the kitten I had loved away in the arms of a boy who loved him just as much.
24 hours, $17.99, and one kitten later one little boy's faith in humanity and my faith in kitty love was restored. Maybe next time I'll steal a houseplant.
Also, June 11th was the first anniversary of this blog!

Blogger of Dreams
So has anyone ever loved something as a child and then discovered it as an adult? Well that happened to me. There was this song. Man I loved it as a kid! It was all about walking in a dream, coming to a river and having a major dance party (from what I could recall). Turns out that song was The River of Dreams by Billy Joel! Yeah apparently I've always had great taste. And I still love it!
So my life. What's been happening lately? I'm still living in the same city as before, despite my many attempts to secure employment elsewhere. Turns out I'm meant to be here! I think I talked a little about that in this other post. Anyway, so I'm here and I finally got a job! Hurray! I'm the newest member of the Custodial Crew. Yeah, not super glamorous, but I really can't complain because I like my co-workers, my boss, and this campus. And everybody has to have a custodian job at least once in their life, right?* So I work afternoons, and I'm still looking for opportunities to work in the morning because I need MONEY.
I have an important announcement: I will be a Service Leader with my college's Service & Learning Center next year! I'll be in leading (with a partner) the story hour at the local library! Man volunteerism is changing my life. But this gave me the opportunity to attend a service leader retreat and a statewide leadership conference this last month, both of which taught me a lot. Everyone is a leader in some respect-- as a parent, teacher, mentor, friend, in the workplace, etc., so everyone ought to develop their leadership skills.
Well that's what I've been up to lately. Looking forward to a Dreamy, Clean Summer of Leadership!
Now watch this video I found.
*Not a rhetorical question...

Text Me About this Blog
You folks are in for a treat today! Hey just kiddin, anyone who has to say that isn't telling the truth.
Anyway, I'm going to crack down on my text-messaging standards. That's right, this post is about texting. Here is the new list of rules I'm going to follow:
1. I will not text during class. Seriously, it's very disrespectful to the teacher and the students around me. Also, I'm paying to be in class so I might as well get the most out of it.
2. I will not text during a speech, in a theater of any sort (exception for dollar-movie theaters), or during any other sort of performance.
3. I will not feel a need to text someone back immediately. My inbox should be like an answering machine- the messages will be waiting for me when I have time and am ready to reply.
4. I will not bring my cell phone to church so I won't be distracted at all.
5. I will "be in the room" when I'm with friends or family, and won't show apathy toward them by needlessly playing with my phone.
My cell-phone use has sort of become ridiculous. I've become too lax on the appropriate times and places to use it. I know that some people think that it's alright to use a cell-phone in some of these situations so I don't expect everyone to agree with my rules.
What do you think? Are these rules too strict? Is the whole point of text-messaging to be able to silently communicate with people in situations that are inconvenient for phone calls? Please give me some feedback because I'd like to know how other people view the appropriateness of sending text messages.

Web 2.0
Web 2.0
(Watch out, this blog may seem similar to a post I wrote in December, but this is an assignment for school.)
I didn't know what Web 2.0 meant until today... You can watch the video that I link to at the end of this post to learn more about it. Web 2.0 is the name of the Internet since 2004 the Internet that allows users to share, create, interact, publish, etc. It encompasses sites like MySpace and Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia. These sites are based on giving users the ability to customize a page or to add their input to the media world. Basically, Web 2.0 has changed how everyone thinks of the Internet and media.
How do I think Web 2.0 affects our society today? Good question.
I think that Web 2.0 brings humanity to the forefront. People are allowed to emote, express, create, shout, or anything else and no one can stop them. Web 2.0 has created tons of art through different mediums- like books, movies, and television shows based off something that was published on Web 2.0. Do you know who Justin Bieber is? Yeah I wish I didn't, either. Anyway, he became famous because of YouTube! Now he has a record deal, professionally-produced albums, and millions of salivating young women following him. I love Web 2.0 because of that. You no longer have to be well-connected or rich to get your big break. All you need to do is start posting videos or writing a blog and hope that someone sees it. Although, the point should not be to get famous. << Check that link for a video from charlieissocoollike. Anyway, thanks for reading. Here's the Web 2.0 Video Link.
I'll post another update soon. I promise!

Back to the ol' Blogstone
"There is a time for departure, even when there's no certain place to go!"
-Tennessee Williams
Today was non-stop. Among other things, I:
- Filled out applications, arranged personal reference letters to be written, thanked people for writing reference letters
- Researched housing for next semester (which included a tour of a beautiful Bed & Breakfast, which hopefully will be my home next year)
- Attended all of my classes
- Worked on writing a four-minute speech that I need to present on Friday and helped make posters for the same project
- Rode a bike at the gym
- Enjoyed the most drastic change of weather I've ever seen in a day (sunny to snowy, not the good kind)
- Attended Bread & Soup Nite with friends and enjoyed a great conversation with a great friend
- Wrote this blog post

Right back where we started from
So here I am...
I'm sitting on a couch in a friend's apartment in Rohnert Park, CA-- home of Sonoma State University. The door is open and the sounds remind me of the bird building at Hogle Zoo. The sun is warming through the window and the air is clear and clean. It's March 15th somewhere, but definitely not here. This is when I remember:
There is something special about California.
Happy Spring Break to me.

The Relationship Post
I'm typing this as I eat a Kit Kat Bar bought by my mother (thanks! It tastes even better because love is the secret ingredient). As you can tell from the title, this post is about relationships. "Ugh, why bother reading?" Naw it's not one of those lame posts about the end of a relationship, the start of a relationship, or even an ODA of "I love being in this relationship!" The truth is, I'm not even considered to be "in a relationship." Although, I'm about to change your mind about that. I'm in tons of relationships at this very moment!
Why does everyone place so much importance on romantic relationships? When I hear the word "relationship" I automatically think of a boyfriend and/or girlfriend, fiancés, spouses, or any other number of "beloved" people. The true definition of "relationship" in this sense is a "connection between persons". At this present moment the connections between me and different people are innumerable! I have parents, siblings, friends, best friends, acquaintances, mentors, associates, and even a nemesis or two... General good advice says to create relationships with people of each gender and every age, at every age. It could be said that the work of our life is to create positive relationships. My status may not be "in a relationship" and it's certainly not "complicated." I am in the process of maintaining thousands of relationships, plain and simple. Although a lot of people my age are pursuing romantic relationships, that is not what I'm looking for right now. I am satisfied with making all other sorts of relationships and letting the romance happen at the right time and under the right circumstances. That's it. I thought you would like to know that.
Quick Life Update:

I came to this conclusion: If I am to have zits, I would rather have them make a picture.

Quick Life Update:
- I gave up Facebook for Lent, so don't think I'm dead because I'll be back on Easter.
- Also, I recently had four zits that created the illusion of a diagonal line across my mouth like this:

Looking for a Place to Live?
Hello again! How is your 2010 going? Mine has been fantastic! I love the dichotomy of time:
I've only been back in school for one month, but so much has changed in my life. I have new friends, reconnected with old friends and just live my life generally different from when I was at home. It seems like December 31st was forever ago! YET every week seems to fly by! I volunteer with the Service and Learning Center at my school each Tuesday, and each time I'm amazed that a whole week has passed. Let me tell you about that.
I go to the public library each week with some other students and we read a couple stories to children and then do an activity with them. I'm not in charge, so I don't have to do any of the hard work! It's an ideal situation. Being around younger kids (about 2 years old to 7 years old) does a bit to fill the lack I have from not being around my sweet nephew (almost 2 years old). Obviously, no one could replace him in my life, but this helps a mite. Also, my nephew and my sister left me a voice message the other night and it was the best thing I've ever heard. I listen to it every day.
So that's my life! This is where I live! I hope you enjoyed this blog-entry-of-less-scholarly-topics. I'm mulling about an idea for an entry that will be pretty intense and will make you think, so watch out for that one. Probably next time I'll just tell you about my classes. Also, that February photo is not mine.
